I forgor #11💀
Hi everyone, and welcome back to the check-ins! This week, I stopped development on the basketball flashback. Why you ask? I've been asked (by my team lead) to animate the end flashback, an important flashback. So I'm back to learn body anatomy, along with running around to my team lead and lead 2D artist. We had to figure out how the mom was going to die, since it couldn't be too graphic. Obviously, my first idea of how she died got shot down (too graphic). Anyways, we decided on an implied death scene, so it shows no human dying. Just a monster. Well that's all for this week. I know it's not much, but you gotta remember that I'm just the writer. Hi everyone, and welcome to a blog post outside of my mandatory posts. Today, I will be talking about map development. If you've been following my updates for Unreality, you would know I've been creating maps for a while. Well, this post is kind of a reflection on map developing and techniques that I used to help me make my maps. Things I'd Done:Base Sketch:To start, I created one big map. It marked the boundaries, roads, and the different areas of the campsite. I marked off areas so I could complete them separately and go more into depth. Talk with Teammates:While I was creating the maps for Unreality, I had to stay in contact with my other members; mainly the 3D modeler(s) and programmer(s). Since they were the ones who were making the assets and designing the terrain, I had to stay in touch with them to see how and what needed to be incorporated. Reflection:I was assigned this because I had nothing much to do (I'm the writer lol), so I first walked into it like "ok, maybe this will take me a week or two to finish." No it did not. Every time I learned something new, for example how roads work, I had to learn something else related right after. I took me a week to learn basic driving skills of Canadians just to place road signs, then I found out that Canadians use more signs than us. So what do I have to do? Learn Canadian road signs. Then there was road sign placement. At that point, I used the first (official) guide I found online, which was American-based. Both styles are similar, and I hope Canadian drivers won't see it as a mistake.
Anyways, enough about me ranting. Overall, good god it takes longer than you think. So much research has to go into it- from learning about the terrain to learning about human interaction in there. Human interaction being things like infrastructure, buildings, etc. Wow everyone! We're on the tenth post already!
Guess what? I finally moved out of mapping (thank jah)! Now that I'm out of mapping, I've moved on to help the 2D artists with animating the flashbacks. Speaking of flashbacks, I think progress last week has been really slow. Not because we have been working slow, but because we've only had like 1-2 team members in per day. Me being one that was there the entire week... But back to the flashback I'm working on. I've made the storyboard and environment, and also had to re-learn human anatomy and how to to play basketball. So now I can start animating this week, which I hope to get pretty far on. Well, sorry for the short post everyone. I couldn't do much (team-wise) this week, and I barely started animating. But I hope to see you all again next week. Wow, I can't believe we're almost 10 posts in.
Hi everyone, and welcome back to another writer check in. Last week went by very slowly, yet also a bit hectic. I had finished the main road and other roads (finally), which I finished earlier into the week. I still went around checking the 3D models (which looked good by the way). So after I finished the map, I was a bit aimless. It took a bit for the 2D artists to hand me an animation job, which then ended up in confusion. Basically, I took a job (animating one of the flashbacks), and one artist missed the cue and started working on that flashback the I was supposed be doing. So then it was handed to me to animate, which fell on the day where I had an assessment to take, so I ended up studying that class period (and others, not just this one). Then Friday... I wasn't at school and was busy the entire day. Well that's all I have for last week, hopefully this week will be more productive www. Finished map below: yes I know it looks the exact same, I had to verify it with my team lead before completing it. Hello everyone, and welcome back to another check-in.
Last week went opposite of my expectations. I wanted to be completely finished w maps, but ended up having mild progress. I still did my usual duty of checking in the game environment and it's assets. We (me and 3D modeler) also made the decision to change one of our easter egg models to a poster instead of a figure. I started on it, but then it got handed to the 2D artists. So back to working on the roads. I think the most difficult part is trying to make it seem accurate. I was watching a video on how to drive roundabouts to get a feel for how roundabouts look and feel, considering we don't have many in Durham. But this week (hoping I don't jinx it like last) I want to be done with the maps. Like completely finished. I need them done so I can go work on the animations, which we're behind on. Well, that's all for this week, and I hope to see y'all next, when I'm finished with mapping. Map Comparison: Wow! We're on the seventh post! Well, welcome back everyone!
This week has been similar to the last; finishing up maps. This time I was working on the roads. I had to learn about sign placement on the road, which has been kinda difficult so far. I had to review American driving and learn Canadian driving at the same time. I also had to make another map, just for the main road and it's road sign placement. It can be seen below. I was slow throughout last week, but this week I hope I'll be faster now that I got my road sign knowledge up. Well everyone, that's all for this week, and I hope to see you next. Goodbye. Hey everyone, and welcome back to my 6th blog post where I update my progress on Unreality.
Last week, I was still working on maps. Fortunately, I made significant progress and went from 1-2 maps and their notes completed, to nearly all 5 maps done. Even though I may have completed the maps, I still need to go back through and see where the flashback items need to be placed. Along with flashback items, I need to find out the correct road signs to be using, so I had to learn about Canadian driving and road signs. And that's what I hope to accomplish this week. Similarly to the maps, I've also talking with the 3D modeler about the assets. Well, that's all I've done for last week, and I hope to see everyone again for next week's post. Hey everyone.
This week was the same as last; just working on terrain and the Easter eggs. I finished the area map for the RV park, and I'm close to finishing the campsite map. I think the staff and park patrol areas might have me go extremely into depth. Also for the terrain, I've made a notes document going into more detail about the area, in case it is needed. Well that's all for this week, and see y'all next. Hi everyone!
It’s been a short week, as on Wednesday we didn’t have school. Since our terrain designer was missing, our team worked on Easter eggs last week. As my team's writer, I made the general outline for the Easter eggs, and helped gather information about them. I also made one of the 3D outlines for one of them. Well that’s all I did this week, and I apologize for the short post. Hi everyone.
It’s been a slow week. I was continuing to work on the maps of the sections. I had trouble going in depth because campsites are free spirited, and I had to make it look scattered enough for it to look like people were just camping wherever they wanted (in the space) instead of having it in neat rows. The artists didn’t really need my help with the storyboarding, but I did look over some. Well, that’s all for this week. Sorry for the short post this week, and see y’all next. |
